What the term actually describes
Nasofrontal angle is the angle formed at the nasion — the point where the forehead meets the bridge of the nose — between two lines seen from the side of the face:
- Forehead (glabellar) line — the line along the slope of the forehead above the brow.
- Nasal dorsum line — the line running down the bridge of the nose.
It's an angle, not a distance and not a size in absolute units — and like gonial angle, it's read from a genuine side profile, not from the front of the face.
Not the same angle as nasolabial angle
Both terms name a side-profile nose angle with a similar-sounding suffix, and looksmax threads frequently run them together, but they sit at opposite ends of the nose:
- Nasofrontal angle — at the top of the nose, where the forehead meets the bridge at the nasion.
- Nasolabial angle — at the bottom of the nose, where the columella meets the upper lip.
A shallow nasofrontal angle and a shallow nasolabial angle describe entirely different structures — one is about how the nose exits the brow, the other about how it meets the mouth — and changing one surgically doesn't move the other.
Why the quoted "ideal" range varies
The most-cited Western clinical reference, attributed to Powell and Humphreys, places the ideal nasofrontal angle between 115 and 130 degrees. But population-preference studies disagree on more than just the width of that range:
- One set of reported Caucasian population averages puts women around 134 degrees and men around 130 — women slightly higher.
- A separate Iranian preference study found the opposite direction: men averaging 137.64 degrees, women 133.55 — men slightly higher.
Two credible sources disagreeing on which sex reads higher on average, not just by how much, is a stronger reason to treat any single quoted number as a general reference range than the ordinary study-to-study spread covered on the nasolabial angle page.
Why a front-facing camera can't read it
The angle nasofrontal angle describes sits on the depth axis of the face — the same axis a straight-on camera view foreshortens the most:
- A full-frontal shot compresses the forehead-to-bridge junction toward the outline of the face, where the actual angle isn't visible.
- Reading it needs a genuine side profile view, where the slope of the forehead and the slope of the bridge are both visible against each other in frame.

Mogalytics does not compute or display a separate nasofrontal angle number. Its six-measurement composite reads live from a front-facing camera feed, and the closest measurement in the same nose family is:
- Nose bridge ratio — bridge height relative to width, read from the front rather than the side.
Bridge ratio and nasofrontal angle both describe the nose, but they're not the same measurement — one is a height-to-width proportion read frontally, the other is a forehead-to-bridge angle read in profile. Mogalytics makes no claim of parity between the two, or with any other site's specific nasofrontal angle calculation.
