What the term actually describes
Cheekbone ratio compares the width of the face at cheekbone level against the width of the face at the jaw base — both measured side to side, corner to corner. A higher ratio means the cheekbones read wider relative to the jaw; a lower ratio means the jaw is closer to or wider than the cheekbones. That's the whole definition — it's a proportion between two widths, not a claim about bone prominence, fat coverage, or bone structure itself.
Why a single photo is the wrong tool for this specific measurement
Cheekbone ratio is built from two horizontal widths measured at different points on the face, front to back. Because of that, it's directly sensitive to yaw — how far the head is turned left or right, off a straight-on axis — since a turn foreshortens the farther width more than the nearer one and shifts the ratio even though nothing about the face changed.
